βyour phone doesnβt need to come everywhere with you this month, the internet will still be there when you get backβ β Iβm not sure if a truer statement has ever been made!
honestly yess yes yes time just gets quicker and quicker and summer goes by so fast doesn't it, feels like if you don't slow down for a second it's somehow already september βΊοΈ hope yours feels magical π€
βwater has a lovely way of reminding your body that it doesnβt have to carry everything by itself all the timeβ - I needed this today.
Writing this from Australia where itβs technically winter but the sun is out today doing exactly what it needs to. That little hit of warmth feels like exactly what youβre describing, the small lovely things we forget to notice until someone points them out.
We are so good at postponing joy until conditions are perfect. The beach drive, the late dinner, the version of ourselves we keep saving for next summer. And then itβs five summers later.
The midsummer meeting is going in my journal this weekβ¦mine just happens to be a midwinter one. Halfway through the year feels like exactly the right time to ask yourself how youβre actually doing.
zoe ohhhh is there anythig better than a little bit of sunshine on a winter's day βΊοΈ but yess, many of us are extremely skilled at postponing joy until x,y or z. we should really win some sort of prize for it! and i love so much that you're doing a midwinter meeting from aus, that feels even more intentional somehow, also sounds super cosy π€ i hope you have a lovely july over there
Thank you Hannah!! You are the inspiration for it. Winter blues can be ways to fall into so focussing on the joy is much needed. I hope you have a lovely sunny week and notice all the beautiful flowers blooming π·βΊοΈβ¨
I LOVE Once Upon a River. I read it back in 2023 and it still sticks out as one of my favorite books. Iβm always surprised more people arenβt talking about it.
once upon a river is SO good, the way it just holds you in that world the whole time. and same same same, it seems to have gone quite under the radar βΊοΈ so glad it found you π€
Itβs so easy to rush through summer with loads of plans and get to the end thinking huh where did it go π Thankyou for this reminder to slow down and intentionally appreciate the season a little more β¨ although Iβm that friend that brings dessert to the party all year round ππ«
haha being the friend that brings dessert all year round is honestly a personality trait i deeply respect βΊοΈ and yes to intentional summer, because it really does disappear if you're not paying attention π€
Lovely encouraging post, Hannah - beautiful ideas for us to act upon and enjoy the magic each one create. I for one enjoy swimming in the lake at this time of year.. Meeting friends for a summer dinner tomorrow - Al fresco dining, and July feels the perfect month to do this. Oh, and The Durrels, a personal favourite - superb storytelling and dreamy landscape. Have a beautiful enchanted July - the kind where tealights glow into the night. π
al fresco dinner AND lake swimming?? you are living a romanticised july in real time elizabeth, i hope you have the best time βΊοΈ and yesss the durrells is such a good lil' escape and always has me dreaming of island hopping around greece. hope the tealights are glowing tonight π€
What is it about July that really gives βsummer dessertβ, I was planning on making my first ever fruit tart to bring to the 4th of July party this weekend!
homemade always hits different at a gathering, even if it's out of a box there's something about it that makes people feel genuinely looked after βΊοΈ thank you for reading π€
