I'm keeping this great list close by Hannah, and my add will be to go to the Boston Public Library; I've lived only 7 miles away for the last 23 years and still have not seen it-this article is making me want to change that!
I love so many of these! My family and I have a regular pizza and movie night every Saturday. It's a sacred ritual, and I keep a list of seasonal movies on my phone, that we are only allowed to watch during that particular season. It keeps those movies special, and roots us into the season we are actually in.
This is such a lovely read, but reading it felt like getting gently called out across multiple life categories.
#1: I am so nostalgic and love reminiscing, but I honestly need to step up my daily outfits so I don't end up looking like I belong on a missing persons poster.
#2: I am the exact opposite! My cupboards are full of brand-new, untouched treasures I have saved for years. Of course, some of them have already expired and can't even be used anymore.
#4: I only manage to do half of this. I am always the designated photographer at gatherings and love snapping pictures everywhere, but the part I fail at is that I almost never actually look back at my own photos.
#5: We promised the kids a sacred Friday family movie night, but what actually happens is that the adults just end up scrolling on their phones.
#7: I am hoping some readers are using our serial novel to achieve this specific point, haha!
#8 & #9: I want these two so badly! But once you have kids, well... you know how it is, the excuses just pile up.
As for the rest... sigh, they all sound amazing, but man, adulthood is hard!
I loved this one so much, Hannah. Gorgeously written and contemplated. Especially loved this reminder: "moments, not milestones, are often where the feeling of being alive actually lives." I love my movie nights: just re-watched Postcards from the Edge a couple of nights ago, I f---ing love that movie... I actually wrote a post recently about some of the small things that make me happy, and cataloguing them really grounded me in my own life and reminded me how much joy there is in it :-) Thanks for all your suggestions.
This is beautiful. Tiny, intentional practices that actually make sense and are not challenging to do either. I love the idea of having recurring characters in life. I have a coffee shop that I absolutely love visiting but I never thought of my interactions that way.
I would add getting back into some of your childhood hobbies that made you happy. My sister, cousin, and I used to make up dance routines all the time as kids. It would be really fun to do that again and a way to get some movement in!
